Introduction to Wine 101
The Wine School of Delaware’s Introduction to Wine Class incorporates a great wine tasting and a fun educational experience all in one. We like to say that we take you from grape to glass and allow you to experience what you learn. Our classes take a taste–learn–taste approach so that you’ll learn wine without even realizing it. Our classes have been tailored to deliver what our students have said they want most…to make wine simple! We’ll taste wines and cover the following introductory topics so that you’ll be more comfortable discussing, tasting, and purchasing wine.
Each class is approximately 2½ hours and covers the following topics:
Go From Grape to Glass
Having the understanding of how wine gets into your glass and then tasting it will be the foundation of your wine knowledge. We’ll introduce the aspects of viticulture and vinification and get you speaking through the grape vine in no time.
How to navigate the world of wine (and the wine store)
Next, we’ll take you for a quick trip around the world and maybe more importantly the wine store. We’ll explore the differences of the new world and old world wines and apply that to our local wine shop. Here you’ll gain the skills to navigate the wine shop and feel comfortable talking to the sales rep (you may even know more than the rep after our class!).
Pairing it Up!
“White with fish? Red with meat? What about pasta?” Our students have asked us to make it simple. If you have ever wondered what wine to pair with your favorite app or dish, we’ll not only provide the basic foundation for you, we’ll have you taste it. Our wine tastings are paired with the restaurant's signature dishes so that you can taste why our pairing principles make good wine sense.
